Pipeline crossing sleeper for BrazilOil and Gas Industry
The concrete sleeper weighed over 100mT and installed by pipelay vessel off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The concrete mould could be fabricated in advance of the offshore schedule saving critical offshore time.
Think Structural designed the concrete sleeper and steel mould to meet the fast track schedule. The design incorporated plate steel design to quick build the moulds and reinforcement detail that could be easily procured in Brazil.
challenge
The biggest challenge to the concrete sleeper was the schedule. From start to finish construction drawings were required within 3 weeks from project award. With such as fast track project, Think Structural confirmed the project requirements upfront and avoided significant delays due by changes.
solution
Designing a concrete sleeper required the understanding of offshore installation and support of pipelines on the seabed. Pipelines can move large distances and designing for the lateral travel allowed a sleeper design that meet functional requirements.
results
The difficult schedule of concrete sleeper presented many challenges for the parallel design of drafting of sleeper and steel moulds. Think Structural worked closely with the client to ensure the design met all expectations and delivered a concrete sleeper design on time and budget.
